Australia Is Open For Business And Perth Awaits…

We’ve all been shocked by the devastation caused by Australia’s raging wildfires. However, despite the ongoing pain and the destruction of land and homes, Oz is standing firm in the face of adversity and is open for MICE business. Perth, situated in South Western Australia, is not only a dream location for incentives, but it is also impressively geared towards corporate events.

Interested in taking your event down under? Here’s what you need to know about Perth.

Flight

With a direct flight route in operation, getting to Perth is now a much more convenient experience. You’d be right in your assertion that it’s still a long journey (there’s no escaping that fact, unfortunately), but removing the need to land, disembark and catch a connecting flight, in our eyes is a game changer. Departing from London and arriving into Perth, the transit time is just over 16 hours; 16 whole hours to catch up on work without distractions, to preview the latest in-flight movies or to just to sit back, relax and catch up on some much-needed sleep.

Climate

Perth enjoys weather conditions that are reflective of the Mediterranean. Summer lasts from December to February and between these months average temperatures range from 17.5 – 30 °C; ideal for taking advantage of the outdoor way of life and the gorgeous beaches and parks. Even in the autumn and winter months, the climate remains mild with temperatures rarely going below 8 °C. Although rain downpours and moody thunderstorms can be experienced in the months of June and August, the beauty of this destination can’t be dampened and it’s sure to take more than the prospect of getting a little wet to divert attentions away from exploring this captivating land.

Population, Culture and People

With a modern history stemming back to 1829, Perth is located on the stunning banks of the Swan River and has the lush green surroundings of Kings Park framing the ever-expanding metropolis skyline. The city, ranked as one of the world’s top 10 most liveable cities*, is home to 1.9 million people and offers residents and visitors alike, a perfect blend of cosmopolitan entertainment and outdoor adventure.

The city is home to an eclectic range of incredible restaurants and eateries serving some of the world’s best food – with fresh ingredients being utilised to delicious effect. And after eating, there’s plenty of distractions in the form of retail therapy, walking tours, river cruises and visiting iconic landmarks. Perth is also a great hub to explore from; the golden beaches and turquoise blue seas that stretch the coastline are fabulous for water sports or a spot of snorkeling amongst corals. There’s also wonders to see in the rural outback; take in the impressive views of the pinnacle limestone formations, sandboard the desert dunes and catch a glimpse of wild kangaroos and koalas, at Yanchep National Park, located to the North of Perth.

Part of Perth’s alluring charm is the strong and proud culture that exists here. The Noongar Aboriginal People are a pivotal facet of this culture and as Perth’s indigenous inhabitants, their history and knowledge of the land is fascinating. Cultural workshops, run by the Noongar people, are a great way to allow incentive/event groups the opportunity to explore and understand first-hand, the way the natives of this region lived and continue to live. Engaging and interactive, these sessions provide incredible insight and help connect delegates on a deeper level to an intriguing aspect of this country’s civilisation.

It’s also impossible not to notice just how friendly and welcoming people in this part of the world are; they take a laid-back approach whilst still maintaining an ‘everything is possible attitude’ – this ethos is really conducive to planning and executing events and is brilliant for visitors, who sensing the vibe, can instantly feel at ease and benefit from the fantastic hospitality on offer.

Accommodation

Here’s a roundup of Perth’s 2019 accommodation status. With an eclectic range of 5-star to 3-star properties, the growing hotel scene offers something to suit a range of event budgets:

5 Star: 4088 rooms*

4 Star: 4097 rooms*

3 Star: 1138 rooms*

Perth is, unsurprisingly, becoming increasingly popular as a business and leisure destination; demand for accommodation is therefore being met with 717 rooms* currently under construction and a further 2279 rooms* approved for development. From chains, through to stand-alone hotels and luxury boutiques, there’s no shortage of amazing places to stay that are in close and easy reach to the best shopping, restaurants, bars, attractions and meeting venues in the city.

Meeting Space

This destination isn’t a one trick pony when it comes to meeting space venues. There’s an abundance of options that cater for a range of event requirements from small meetings, through to conferences of up to 4,000* people. The Government House ballroom and grounds is one great example of an impressive venue that can be hired for indoor and outdoor private events in the area, and the newly opened Ritz-Carlton, Perth is home to an open-air bar terrace that can be used as a fabulous reception area for up to 100 people.

Things To Do

When in Perth, here are some must-try, recommended activities:

  • Head down to Coast Port Beach and taste delicious local Western Australian produce at the Coast Port Beach Restaurant and Bar. This fabulous spot, with spectacular ocean views, also offers venue space for up to 1000 people.

  • Thirsty? Sample the beer at the atmospheric Little Creatures Brewery in Fremantle – a tasty experience for groups who like a tipple.

  • Tuck into a delicious steak dinner at the Old Brewery & Riverside Brewhouse, which sits on the edge of the glorious Swan River. With corporate packages available, this venue can also work well for group dining.

  • Find a head for heights and take flight in a private helicopter ride over Kings Park for unbeatable and exceptional city views.

  • Venture out onto the idyllic Swan River by yacht and see Perth from a whole new vantage point. Catering for groups, this is a brilliant way to bring teams together on the water and a unique networking activity, where the novelty of sailing keeps conversations flowing. The Royal Perth Yacht Club is also investing heavily to enhance its corporate offering, so it’s a venue option well worth considering.

Despite the terrible destruction that the country has and continues to endure from the bushfires that burn, Perth and other Australian destinations should not be overlooked. From our fantastic time in Perth, we can safely say that it is a location that delivers exceptionally on so many event fronts and offers great value for money, pound to the dollar.
